IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian LTSS Programs Databases
The ITU database is a listing of Indian Health Service, tribally operated, or urban Indian health programs (ITUs) that offer any type of long-term services and supports (LTSS) —a variety of services for elders and people with disabilities.
This database offers a view of LTSS programs available through ITUs nationally, and is also a place to find a specific program based on location or a certain service offered. Information in the ITU LTSS Program database is collected and updated by a team of researchers on an ongoing basis.
LTSS Programs in Indian Country – By the Numbers
The database includes 400+ organizations in Indian Country that provide LTSS. This includes a vast array of clinics and facilities, including urban Indian health organizations, nursing homes, senior centers, adult day programs, nutrition programs, hospice, social service and program offices, and more. Of the organizations, 260+ are Title VI grantees. Programs offering LTSS programs and services are shown on the map below.
LTSS programs can include a wide variety of medical, personal, and social services. Researchers identified 29 different care types under the broad category of “long-term services and supports.” The bar graph below shows these care types and the number of organizations that offer each kind.

Disclaimer: Each tribe, inter-tribal organization, or other organization listed has their own policy on who they serve and whether they offer services to non-tribal members. This varies from program to program.
Many Types of LTSS Programs
This interactive graph shows the most common types of LTSS programs provided by ITUs. The bar graph below shows these care types and the number of organizations that offer each kind.
Many tribal health organizations also refer patients to other organizations to receive LTSS services when the tribes themselves do not provide the specifically needed services. Referred services are not included in the database.
